Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Management

We abide by the climate action strategy outlined in Thai Union's commitment to greenhouse gas reduction, by adhering to the 1.5°C target scenario under the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).

To achieve these ambitious goals, we have developed robust decarbonization pathways focused on efficiency improvements, such as energy optimization, strengthening engineering and administrative controls, and advancing low-carbon technologies. This includes the use of efficient machinery, renewable energy sources, and the exploration of advanced technologies, in order to pave the way for a more sustainable future.

To achieve a 42% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2030 compared to the 2021 baseline (focusing on Scope 1 and 2 emissions), we concentrate on two key areas:

  • Efficiency improvement : an optimization in process, system, or operation to improve energy consumption, and reduce cost and environmental impact, etc.
  • Low carbon technology : innovations and solutions designed to reduce carbon emissions, primarily from human activities like energy production, transportation, manufacturing, and agriculture.

Our progress

In the face of continued business growth, and despite the introduction of new facilities in Songkha and Samut Sakhon that may contribute to an increase in energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, such as an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), a new factory building, and an Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) to remove dust particles, we were still able to reduce absolute GHG emissions by 17% from the baseline year of 2021.

In the future, we will still continue to explore advanced technologies, to further meet our Group’s sustainability targets and commitments.

What’s next?

  • Expansion of Renewable Energy Sources : Transition for more solar cell consumption and lead to coal phase-out by 2030.
  • Increase Industrial Efficiency : Optimizing manufacturing processes through automation and switching to low-carbon technologies can drastically reduce emissions from operations.
  • Employee Training : Continually providing employees training to ensure that they understand the importance of GHG emission reduction and encouraging them to adopt best practices in handling and processing products to minimize energy consumption that result in GHG emission reduction.
  • Etc.
