Managing sustainability and transparency in our supply chain
i-Tail sources varieties of seafood, livestock meats, food ingredients, packaging, and logistic services globally. It is part of our responsibilities to ensure that our suppliers comply with applicable social and environmental standards.
- As a minimum requirement, all suppliers must acknowledge and sign our Business Ethics and Labor Code of Conduct (CoC) in order to conduct business with us. The CoC is based on 12 Fundamental Principles grounded in internationally recognized standards.
- In 2017, Thai Union published the Vessel Code of Conduct (VCoC), based on the CoC’s fundamental principles but tailored for application to fishing vessels. The intention is that all fishing vessels that i-Tail buys from are from suppliers that are continuously improving their efforts to meet the clauses in the VCoC and that this is monitored.
Beyond suppliers’ compliance with the CoC or VCoC, certain categories of raw materials are subject to higher standard on sustainability in line with the Thai Union’s SeaChange® 2030 Sustainability Strategy. For example:
- Tuna - By 2025, 100% of tuna must be from fisheries that are certified by Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), in MSC assessment, or engaged in Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) towards MSC certification. In addition, 100% of the tuna vessels must be from vessels and suppliers that demonstrate Operational Best Practice to prevent Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU) fishing and modern slavery. - Chicken - By 2030, 100% of chicken will be sourced responsibly. This involves ensuring that poultry farming respects animal welfare and has a minimal environmental footprint.
