Responsible Wild Caught Seafood Commitment

The Company’s sourcing is aligned with TU’s Group’s Commitment that 100% of wild-caught seafood will be responsibly produced by 2030*

By 2025, Tuna that Thai Union sources will be from vessels and suppliers that demonstrate operational best practice

The Tuna Commitment

In 2021, Thai Union Group renewed its Tuna Commitment, with an aim to derive inspiration from the success of the previous five years and create plans geared towards the next five years.

This means that by 2025, Thai Union will only source tuna from vessels and suppliers that demonstrate Operational Best Practices, in order to prevent Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU) fishing, and modern slavery practices.

Operational best practices for vessels include the following guidelines that will help identify the milestones and targets for the 2025 Tuna Commitment:

1

Thai Union will only source tuna from fisheries that are engaged in FIPs towards MSC certification, are currently under MSC assessment, or are already MSC-certified;

2

Vessels must have completed the Vessel Improvement Plans or have met the VCoC or its equivalent;

3

Vessels should have monitoring-at-sea capabilities and should have either human or electronic coverage;

4

Suppliers and Thai Union operations must meet ISSF conservation requirements;

5

Vessels must report data, meet quota allocations, and have conservation measures according to RFMO resolutions; and

6

Tuna should be traceable while in vessel transit and the Global Dialogue on Seafood Traceability (GDST) Standard 1.0 should be implemented.

*All species in Priority Group 1, representing over 90% of TU's total wild-capture volume. We will continue to drive continuous improvement for other species towards and beyond 2030.

Responsible Aquaculture and Agriculture

Aquaculture and agriculture are vital components of human food and pet food production industries. Both also face issues and challenges, such as deforestation, biodiversity degradation, and the excessive use of water and chemicals. These issues not only threaten ecological balance but also pose risks to food security and corporate reputations.

Under the Thai Union’s SeaChange® 2030 Sustainability Strategy, the Company sets its sights on achieving 100% soy and palm oil certifications, and ensuring zero deforestation and conversion across the entire supply chain, by 2030.

Furthermore, 100% of chicken will be responsibly sourced, in order to minimize environmental impact and meet animal welfare standards.

In terms of aquaculture, 100% of farm shrimp and feed produce should responsibly meet credible industry standards or is in line with an improvement program that minimizes impact on the surrounding ecosystem.
